(c) 1997-2004 the @stro pages

the @stro contest

July 2000 : Telrad Reflex Sight : THIS CONTEST IS CLOSED

Telrad Reflex Sight

This time around we are giving away a brand new Telrad reflex sight that was graciously donated by Oceanside Photo and Telescope. This accessory is a hot item. On a recent trip to the Mt. Wilson observatory outside of Pasadena California we found out that both the 100" and 60" telescopes have Telrads, so if its good enough for those monsters it will work for your backyard scope :o). All you have to do is answer correctly as many questions as possible and you're entered into the contest to WIN!

The questions:
1) What are the names of the two moons orbiting Mars?
Possible answers:
Spartos
Phobos
Ikonos
Deimos
2) How many objects are listed on the "Messier Catalog"?
Possible answers:
57
9
110
"billions and billions"
3) What does the acronym "NGC" stand for?
Possible answers:
Council de General Numeros
New General Catalog
Northern Greenwich Coordinates
Nucleic Gamma Cepheid

The correct answers to the July 2000 @stro contest were:

Question #2: 110 - There are 110 entries in what is known as the Messier catalog. This observing catalog was compiled by Charles Messier and is popular because all of the objects listed are easily seen with a small telescope. More on the Messier...

Question #3: New General Catalog - The NGC catalog was compiled by John Louis Emile Dreyer around 1887. It contains a variety of objects with a detailed legend for descriptions of each of them. More about the NGC catalog...

Winner: Robin W. from Bellflower, California
1st runner-up: Dennis A. from Australia
2nd runner-up: John I. from Plymouth, Michigan
